Swim Alberta Discover, Emerge and Aspire Camps
Each year Swim Alberta selects three recognition Teams from all clubs across the Province. These teams are based on performance with respect to age.
Discover Team
Eligibility:
Females age 12 & under and males age 13 & under who are registered with an Alberta club program attending the Swim Alberta Provincial Championships are eligible. Age will be based on first day of the selection competition.
Athlete Selection:
All ‘A’ finalists from the 12 & under female and 13 & under male age groups from any individual event from the selection competition will be selected for this opportunity. Swimmers who achieve an ‘A’ final equivalent, meaning Top 10 in a time final event, may be selected.
Selection Competition:
Swim Alberta Provincial Championships, March 17-20, 2022
Purpose: A single day competitive training session (which may include classroom learning) for both athletes and coaches. Goal outcomes are to create a fun and competitive environment and to demonstrate a high-end expectation of aerobic training in the general preparation phase of physical development and seasonal preparation. The overarching goal is to provide a distinct uplift in experience beyond a normal daily training environment.
Dates: May 1, 2022
Location: Calgary and Edmonton, however these camps may run in different communities as well. Specific locations will be communicated at a later date once confirmed.
Participation Fee: $30.00 per camp
Emerge Team
Purpose: To bring the emerging swimmers in this age category together to experience a significant increase in expectation concerning training and competition preparation. Additionally, the introduction of specific Team Alberta protocols and the potential for a dual meet racing opportunity, depending on the time of year, are likely to be included. The overarching goal is to provide a distinct uplift in experience beyond a normal daily training environment.
Camp Dates: May 27-29, 2022 (TBC) Location: Calgary (TBC) Participation Fee: $250
Eligibility:
Swimmers must complete the Declaration of Intent prior to the last day of the selection period and must swim events used for selection in the selection period to be eligible. All participants need to adhere to any provincial, municipal, facility as well as Swim Alberta COVID-19 requirements. Swim Alberta requirements can be found on the Swim Alberta Website.

Athlete Selection:
Age as of March 17, 2022: Females 14 & under / Males 15 & under
Number of swimmers: 40 Swimmers (top 12 female, top 12 male, top 16 next best regardless of gender)
Selection Period:
March 17 to April 24, 2022
(Start of Alberta Provincial Championships to the end of Western Championships)
Selection:
Selections will be made using each swimmer’s best individual Swim Alberta On-Track Points score. Each swimmer’s score will be based on the swimmers age as of the start of the selection period. If two swimmers are tied for the same Swim Alberta Select Points, the next highest points will be calculated until the tie is broken. Swimmers who have qualified for Aspire Alberta will choose one or the other (Emerge or Aspire).
Aspire Team
Purpose: To provide opportunities for training, race preparation & analysis, and competition (dependent upon the time of year) so as to expose aspiring swimmers to the level of expectation required to compete internationally. Focus will be on skill race analysis under pressure. The overarching goal is to provide a distinct uplift in experience beyond a normal daily training or typical racing environment.
Camp Dates: June 1-5, 2022 (including Mel Zajac Invitational) Location: Vancouver, BC
Participation Fee: $325
Eligibility:
Swimmers must complete the Declaration of Intent prior to the last day of the selection period and must swim events used for selection in the selection period to be eligible. All participants need to adhere to any federal, provincial, municipal, facility as well as Swim Alberta COVID-19 requirements with respect to travel and training in BC. Number of swimmers: up to a maximum of 20 Swimmers regardless of gender.
Selection Period:
March 17 to April 24, 2022

Will be made using each swimmer’s best individual Points score. Each swimmers score will be based on the swimmers age as of the start of the selection period.
