PCS Christmas Cracker is a 3 heats and finals meet in Victoria, BC. December 3-5. Swimmers attending meet should plan to travel the Thursday before and Monday after the meet.
A reminder that by declaring for Team Travel that you are accepting the full cost of the trip, including any cancellation fees if the trip is cancelled. Keyano works hard to recover everything we can from cancelations, usually including the hotel, vehicles and some flight credits - and any costs recovered are always returned to the members attending. To protect from unexpected situations, Keyano books flights that have cancelation options when possible but these options can cost over $1,000 more. If a no cancelation option is the only reasonable option then that is what we will book. We heavily scrutinize flights for cost and itinerary and choose the best option. Also note that the price of one flight online is always cheaper than a group booking, which uses up the few sale seats quickly.
Cost for the trip will be invoiced as soon as possible after the sign up deadline. This may take some time if a hotel or flight is being negotiated or we have changing numbers of swimmers attending. The bulk of a trip is invoiced on or before the date of travel for known costs (flight, hotel, estimate for car and food), with a small final invoice after the trip to cover the actual cost of those estimated items.
Team Travel during Covid-19
We have put extensive thought into Team Travel and the risks that come with it at any time, which now includes Covid-19. Everyone has heightened senses for risk right now, so we want to explain and bring some context to what Team Travel means during Covid.
Precautions:
Keyano will create rooming assignments that stay as close to training group cohorts as possible. We will choose large open spaces when possible for meetings, meals, etc, and we must accept that masks and hand sanitizer are still the best defense against all illness, not just Covid. The nature of any travel is that we will need to be in vehicles, airplanes, and cannot always control the environment around us. In terms of Covid-19, Team Travel will only be available to swimmers who meet the Restriction Exemption Program (vaccination or ongoing testing).
Reaction to illness or injury:
Coaches and past chaperones will all share with you stories of an illness or injury that happened on a trip. This is not unique to Covid, however because of Covid a simple illness carries new consequences of potential testing and delayed travel home.
In any season, the reaction to illness or injury is to address any emergency and to contact parents as soon as possible to ensure any background and choices for care are followed. If a swimmer was ever required to remain on location after the team returned home, then a staff or chaperone would accompany the ill or injured swimmer until such time as a parent could get to them.
We take the safety of all of the swimmers extremely seriously on Team Travel and it is generally a very safe and valuable experience to everyone involved. Due to the current pandemic environment, we felt it was important to give this quick summary and context for Team Travel this winter.
